The SBDC at Daytona State College is a member of the Florida SBDC Network, a statewide service network funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

As a subcenter of the SBDC at UCF, the SBDC at Daytona State College has been actively serving the entrepreneurs of Volusia and Flagler Counties since 1992.

How to S~T~A~R~T~U~P Your Own Business

 

Thinking of starting your own business? This seminar gives the aspiring entrepreneur a realistic view of the seven basic requirements for business STARTUP: selecting an idea, testing the market, acquiring capital, writing a plan, turning for help, understanding legal requirements, and putting it all together. Registration fee includes start-up kit for Volusia/Flagler Counties.

 

Business Financing

 

Get the lowdown on financing options available to small businesses. Determine how much cash you need, find out where to get the cash you require, learn how the SBA guaranteed loan program works, and understand what a bank looks at when evaluating your loan package. This workshop will reveal the Top Ten Red Flags that might ultimately determine whether or not you receive the funding you need.

 

Record Keeping/Taxes

 

People who start new businesses are often overwhelmed by recordkeeping requirements. However, the importance of keeping good records can mean the difference between the success or failure of your business. This workshop includes what records to keep and for how long, a comparison of available recordkeeping systems, understanding financial statements, improving cash flow, and selecting an accountant. Also learn how to make taxes more manageable for your small business. Save money by knowing the tax implications of your business structure, what's deductible and what isn't, electronic filing, payroll taxes, and more. Taught by accounting professionals.

 

Legal/Insurance

Learn about common and costly business legal mistakes. Topics include: contracting, partnershp and shareholders agreements, employee issues business growth and selling your business. You will also learn how to keep your insurance premiums low, how and where you can locate a good insurance agent, what kinds of insurance you need and if you are required to carry certain types of insurance.

 

Marketing Matters

 

Just starting a business is not enough; you need to let potential customers know about it, get them in, and have them buy your product or service. This workshop will help you achieve your sales and marketing goals by understanding your products or services, customers, prospects and competitors. Taught by marketing professionals.
